| Tall
Tales
1. Read the
story "Cloudy W/ A Chance of Meatballs" with your students.
2. Discuss with
your students what a tall tale is. Use other stories as examples:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tall_tale
3. Have your
students find as many exaggerations as they can in the book and
create an observation list.
4. Begin to
brainstorm a tall tale involving your school. Build upon the story
of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs but add characters from your
own school.
5. Have the
students work in small groups to create different parts of the story.
6. Create a
vocabulary word wall of words that can be used as exaggerations
-- such as HUGE, UNBELIEVALBE, ALWAYS, etc.
7. Once your
story has been created (or stories), contact
Jennifer on how to submit them to this project.
8. Be sure to
include your school name, location, grade level, and teacher name
with the story.
9. Visit the
project to read other tall tale stories submitted by participating
classrooms.
This project is now over.
