Please read all directions carefully.

In the past we have conducted this project with hardboiled eggs --
but due to the waste of food and also the mess involved............
we will be using 2" PLASTIC EGGS!!
(Oriental Trading has 144 for $8 - this is just an option!)

MATERIALS:

1 plastic egg per roller to roll.
(If you wish to participate in the Fashion Show, you will need 2 eggs per roller!)
To add weight to the eggs, please decide with your class WHAT ingredient you will put in the eggs. Each of the eggs in your group will need to have the same ingredient and the same amount of that ingredient. (in the past we have used white rice, playdoh, etc.)
At least 40 feet of marked length (such as butcher paper and it should be marked off with inch marks.) Rolling area needs to be FLAT -- no sloped rolling areas! :) The width of the rolling area needs to be no wider than 3 feet.
Tape Measure or some measurement tool
Some way to mark where egg stops rolling -- or where it leaves the paper. (If an egg rolls off the paper, THAT is where you measure for distance.) In the past, some teachers have used post-its with the student's name.
Tally Sheets
A calculator to add all rolls.
An internet connection in which to post results. You are also encouraged to join our edmodo group or Facebook page and share ideas there.
Final Tally Sheet with directions on how to post data.

DIRECTIONS:

Each "roller" will roll their egg down the butcher paper or designated marked area.
Where the egg stops (or leaves the butcher paper) is where you will mark distance.
It is to be a NORMAL roll and NOT a throw.
(The arm needs to swing back NATURALLY (shoulder height) and swing forward
in a normal swing. When they release it, it should ROLL as if it was a bowling ball.)

Students will roll against each student in your chosen classroom/group/team.

Teachers (or designated person/student) will mark down the measured roll per person in INCHES. Each tally sheet will have a column for the student rollers.

Teachers (or designated person/student) will then add and average the
rolls of all rollers. When submitting the results -- you will submit the classroom's
average. Please remember to list this in INCHES.
(if you submit your date incorrectly, it will not be placed into the final results!)
If you need a convertor from feet to inches, please click HERE!

You will have an area on the tally sheet to share what ingredient you used to fill your eggs.

The posting of results will be available on the webpage
from March 27 to April 14, 2008. Check back often for posted results.

When teachers submit results, they will be provided with a link to pick up their certificate of participation.

If classrooms wish to participate in the fashion show,
please check the fashion show page for more details.
