I totally agree with you, it's not the product it is the process. I will be featuring your post on my blog if that is OK. I am looking for students for my students to blog with. Please contact me if you or someone in your district is interested. I teach K-5 students at 3 schools as the technology resource teacher.
Thanks for your wonderful thoughts.

Good thoughts, Jen. What concerns me on the same level are all of the "contests" that people enter and promos/plans they sign up for with their email/phone number, but then they get annoyed when they are actually contacted...
I have a droid, and i love it. To be perfectly honest, right now, it's EXTREME ease of use and endless list of useful tools is far outweighing any potential negatives. Resistence is futile? I hope that's not the case. I'd really love to love my new phone without something new to feel guilty about :)

I have to disagree. Would I visit a physician who "wasn't quite ready" to use modern medical techniques? Would I retain the services of a lawyer who wasn't current with the legal process? Would I use a dentist who was employing the same techniques from 30 years ago?

Why must professionals in other areas stay current or parish while educators continue to languish behind?

As a parent I demand that our education professionals remain current and employ 21st century learning tools and opportunities. If an educator chooses not to get up to speed then parents should be given the choice not to employ their services. Why must I sit by and watch my neighbor's children take advantage of digital literacies and online collaboration tools? Why should my child accept anything less than a 21st century education?

I don't buy the kid gloves method. Professionals should be held accountable and treated as other professionals.

Sorry if this seems harsh. I would think many parents would agree with me.

So why should educators get to choose to maintain an antiquated skill set to the detriment of students?

Seems we have been thinking on the same lines about thinking and questioning. We are quick to accept and quick to discard and not much thought about about merit, credibility and relevance.
