Help Me, Toby Wan Kenobi —

I have a pet peeve –

I really don’t like it when people autopost to twitter.   In fact, it is really more than just a peeve –

I have unfollowed people for autoposting.

To me — I don’t get it.   Plus, it seems impersonal…..especially the one’s like “That you, so and so for following and check out my blog here.”    You may call them autotweets — I call them “huh?”

Or — the autoposts from Zite or Flipboard –
If you post something on twitter — to point me to a blog post — I am going to assume that you have read that blog post — and you are giving it your “stamp of approval” or at least “hey, this is something to check out.”

Automatic feeds to twitter — and automatic feeds to blog posts — are a pet peeve of mine.  I admit.

So — yesterday…… when Toby Wan Kenobi suddenly started blasting out you-tube links — and not just a few — I mean, scrolls of tweets — I started on my way to remove him from following.   Not for ever….I enjoy his humor, I enjoy his wisdom — and anyone who likes Star Wars as must as he does — HAS TO BE a kindred spirit.   So I hesitated……

and instead of removing Toby — I removed myself from Twitter for a while.   (always a good choice when you might be making the wrong decision).

Later on that evening, Toby posted a tweet to apologize.   He let us know that his daughter had commandeered his ipad and had posted her favorite YouTube videos.

I blasted a “no worries” twitter to him — and then asked her age — she is 10.

And then I hung my head in shame…….

How often do I jump to conclusions without knowing the entire story — or sum up what I feel about a person after 1 or 2 meetings.   I do pride myself on my discernment — not to be prideful, but I am a pretty good judge of character — but I also can be quick at times to have an opinion……or make a decision — when I don’t have all the info.

And I need to say “Thank you” to Toby — and to his daughter — for teaching me a valuable lesson on Friday afternoon.

It is always good to know the entire story — before you decide on your action.

I learned a lot — thank you!
