At the end of a session on Twitter & Blogs Etiquette today — Darren Draper tried to do a tying it all up with the question “So What Did We Learn?”

So here is my synopsis of what was learned at the session hosted at NECC UNPLUGGED:

1.  We learned that everyone has their own set of guidelines on how twitter works for them.

2.  We learned that some people have both personal and educational blogs.

3.  We learned that if we are an educator, we might need to remember that when we blog IF we are blogging AS an blogging educator!

4.  We learned to agree to disagree.

5.  We learned that some people take twitter VERY passionately while others use it much more passively.

6.  We learned that varying opinions do not mean we disagree entirely.

7.  We learned that some people have more than 1 identity on twitter.

8.  We learned that (with blogs) the type of blog software NEVER came up!!

9.  We learned that some schools have administration that do not wish their teachers to blog and we could not understand that thought process.

10.  We learned MOSTLY that we are always continually learning!!!

It was a good session and thanks to Kevin Honeycutt for ustreaming it.

    Oh, 1 more thing.

    11. We learned (well I learned while working in customer service) that when someone asks you the same question you have heard over 70 times that day — it is still the first time they have asked it of you — and you need to remain pleasnt

……so, if someone greets you with “OH, I follow you on twitter or I read your blog” you might just need to grit your teeth, smile, and say “Thanks” and then move the conversation on!! :)

  2. Wow, Jen. Fantastic summary! Thanks for joining in on one of the best hours of my NECC.

This discussion was what I had hoped could come out of NECC Unplugged.

    @Darren
Thanks for facilitating the chat. I didn’t expect a solution or a final consensus……but I had looked forward to a good discussion — and that is what happened!

It was a good chat — lots of new voices — interesting conversation.
    Thank you!
