Right now, I am in the midst of “Talent Is Never Enough” by John C. Maxwell.
Why am I reading it?
I am hosting 9 projects this year, and 4 are overlapping. It is very easy to start getting overwhelmed by people serving and people pleasing. It is easy for me to rest on “what I have done before” but I want to push past that and add new ideas and greet each question like it was the first time it was asked instead of the 84th time. I want my participants to feel that even if they were the only participant, I would still host the project….and I want the joy to be restored in this tired disposition I seem to find myself in.
What am I learning?
1. Belief lifts your talent.
2. Passion energizes your talent.
3. Initiative activates your talent.
4. Focus directs your talent.
5. Preparation positions your talent.
6. Practice sharpens your talent.
7. Perserverance sustains your talent.
8. Courage tests your talent.
9. Teachability expands your talent.
10. Character protects your talent.
11. Relationships influence your talent.
12. Responsibility strengthens your talent.
13. Teamwork multiples your talent.
My favorite part so far:
Page 24
“You will become on the outside what you believe on the inside.”
and Page 42
“There are many things that will catch my eye, but there are only a few that will catch my heart. It is those I consider to pursue.” Tim Redmond
I also appreciate that at the end of each chapter are application exercises.
So what are you reading right now — and why??

I love this book! I have read it twice so far and have found so many parts of it both helpful and inspirational. Chapter 4 on focus has been especially helpful to me. I am interested in many things and I believe focus is one of my greatest challenges.
I have read many books by John C. Maxwell and I also really like “Failing Forward” and “Thinking For A Change.” Those two books have really changed my thinking on a lot of things in life. I highly recommend both of them.
