Everyone seems to be watching.
I admit it — I watched the Susan Boyle video (a couple of times) and was touched by her talent. I also watched Shaheen Jafargholi’s video as well — and again, went “WOW”.
And then — I thought about it……..
How, both their lives have changed dramatically, because they chose to broadcast themselves out (if you let me use that word) by auditioning for a tv show where they KNEW they might just be seem by many more people than their usual audience.
They made the choice.
And then I think about others — who did not make that choice…..but by other’s decisions, had their “moments” put up on the internet for all to see, to comment, to critique, and to share the link on…..
And I wonder — would I want that……do I want that? What I possibly could do someday (especially something stupid, inappropriate, or just not necessary) ….in a classroom, in church, in an airport terminal, in a shopping market, at the store, or anywhere – get videotaped and then shared with others…..
And that concerns me.
I know that I am in control of MY OWN DIGITAL FOOTPRINT — what I say on my blog, on twitter, on plurk, with my projects, with my presentations, etc etc etc…..I control my “professional voice” and share my “personal voice” as well. I live with the wise choices as well as the “gosh, I wish I had never done or said that.” Those moments are in my control…..and luckily I am a pretty sane, logical, moral, and well-behaved individual — but I have my crazy moments as well. Would I really want that shared with others?? I don’t think so.
And I realize that others also have control of MY DIGITAL FOOTPRINT — with or without my knowledge or my permission…..
and again — that concerns me.
Not dwelling — just thinking,
And would appreciate your thoughts as well.
Jen

I often wonder about these kinds of things. Sure I have a website, a Twitter account, etc. etc. but I control those things.
What if I were to go on a show such as this and totally bomb it? Or have a way too human moment?
It’s a brave new world we face.
