In the last week, or so, it has been proven yet again — that we do not CHECK sources…..
Two very good examples:
Royal Wedding Vs. Cinderella: http://www.themeparkinsider.com/news/response.cfm?ID=945508042
(the first, deliberately set up — the second, accidental)
And I admit, I feel completely for the first — but I was not the only one in my Personal Learning Network.
Which causes me to ask again — What Are We Proving?
And my answer to that is we are not practicing what we preach. We tell our students “You MUST check your sources.” YOU MUST…..yet so often, are we checking ours??
I don’t want to be skeptical of everyone and everything….but I also do not wish to be gullible.
The problem is though, if I am a respected educator — which hopefully I am, others do perceive my tweets, my wall-posts, and my blog thoughts to be credible…….and I could easily pass on inaccurate information to others…. and if they tweet, wall-post, blog, etc — the ripple of inaccuracy continues.
In a world that is soooo fast paced….I need to continually remind myself that I have to slow down. I need to not WISH to be the one who has the FIRST INFORMATION — I must work my best to be one who has CORRECT INFORMATION.
And to do that, I need to remember to check sources.
Just my thoughts.
